That time I had a bad sleep week…

I’d like to think that every girl (or guy) needs to nap and nap like a champ… but I’m not much of a long or short nap kinda girl.  I wake up by 5:15 every single day, regardless of what day of the week it is. Now do I get up at that time, NO… that’s a whole different story for a different day, but let’s stay on track here.

IMG_1385Monday was a work holiday for most of us and how we choose to spend it varies- for me it’s a day to catch up with life around the house and if the weather allows, go to the pool, cook out, or meet up with friends. It also adds unnecessary anxiety to my life because work is so crazy that missing one day means I’m automatically behind for the week, before the work week even starts. <insert sad face emoji>

I tried to start of the week right with a run but after a bad hydration weekend and warmer temps that I’m not used to running in, 2.76 miles felt like a death march. I wanted at least 3.0 to 3.5 but I knew I needed to stop and walk because that light headed feeling wasn’t going away.  Whiskey.Tango.Foxtrot! Not good, not good at all.

What does this have to do with a sleepless week? Well it seems that after my craptacular Monday run came a series of craptacular life events- my poor little 16 year old Jeep had some issues and I took her in on Thursday. I was so concerned about how much money she was going to cost to get fixed because let’s be real, when the check engine light comes on, its not a good sign. My cat was barfing all over the house, which she never does, so I assumed she had something blocking her intestine and needed emergency surgery- more money to spend. AND I couldn’t catch up at work. Every single project that I am working on needed something done that minute and I couldn’t get ahead on the deadlines I have the following week, let alone get everything else done.  Sigh….

*Disclaimer: let’s be real- I know this is not too bad. I know really bad things actually happen and this all is just a blimp but in my life- my cat, my jeep, and my job are kinda a big deal to me.  So let me stress over the dumb shit please. <insert smiley face emoji>*

All of this lead up to a horrible week of sleep and a knot in my shoulder/ neck the size of Texas. It also meant I couldn’t really turn my head on Friday at work so I was the weirdo giving everyone the sort of side eye when they approached my desk. Friday night I slept with a heating pad on my neck and woke up bright and early to hit the trails with my BABs (minus one) to start our Summer of Run–> more on that later.

IMG_8738Who knew 6 miles in the early hours, along the C&O Canal could be so glorious? Sweating it out along the trails with the girls is just what this one needed. When I got home and showered, all by 9:30am… I took a nap. A REALLY LONG nap.  And then I napped some more.  By 2pm I knew I need to get up because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep that night. I went to bed at 9:30pm and boy- it felt good.

Good bye neck ache! Good bye work stress… until we meet again, Monday morning.

ps- the Jeep is getting fixed, costing an arm and a kidney,  and the cat is just fine.  She just wanted to barf all over the house on that particular Wednesday. <insert eye roll emoji>
